International Treaties and Documents Concerning Åland Islands
The original documents are, self-evidently, the principal basis of knowledge of the international treaties concerning Åland Islands. Discussions have, however, often been based on translations of which there are several versions, some of which do not adequately correspond to the originals.
Ålands kulturstiftelse (Åland Culture Foundation) has therefore published facsimile versions of the original treaties and of some other international documents pertaining to them. Those documents, which originally are neither in English nor French, are translated into English.
The Editor wishes to emphasise that different language versions of documents are officially valid only when they are included in the original documents. Other translations, even made by official authorities, are only guiding of character.
The same texts are included in this Internet version of the treaties, however without maintaining their original typographical form. Those documents, which originally are neither in English nor French, have been translated into English.
